When driving through the elaborate iron gates of the lush 5.3 acre Dans Bois Crete or In Wood Ridge, one immediately feels refuge from bustling downtown Dallas, just minutes away. Few estates in the DFW area can claim this distinction of being a private secluded retreat with 6 bedroom suites, seven and three half baths, grand entertaining spaces, a wine room and dream cinema.
The house was transformed by the current owners in 2007-2008 who purchased the neglected Edwardian estate and revitalized every inch of the 14,139 square feet. They wanted a home that anyone could feel comfortable in, whatever the occasion. The key element to the change was a dramatic change of atmosphere by the use of color, lighting and a renewed sense of detail to every door handle. The front door handle for instance, was imported from Lithuania. The landscaping was also a key component to the new feel - completely resurfaced and renewed by Harold Leidner for privacy and aesthetic beauty.
Venetian plaster walls and Baccarat chandeliers offer the perfect backdrop for the owners impressive collection of art and artifacts. Every wall and ceiling of every room has a different texture and finish, from the Honduran mahogany in the formal study to the inlaid leather in the game room.
The dining room ceiling is a replica of the Basilica San Marco - after a recent trip to Venice, the owners fell in love with the design and so asked their interior decorator, Rhonda Vander-White, owner of RSVP Design Services to copy it. Its 13 inch thick Casci ornamental plaster gold ceiling houses a lighting and sprinkler system hidden tightly within the design.
Down the staircase of a hidden paneled door off the front foyer, one emerges into the lush home theater a true scene stealer. Evoking the golden age of cinema with lush blue velvet seating, recessed ceiling and impressive audio and video components, this one of kind stage is complete with an elaborate concession stand and ticketing booth.
Adjacent to the theatre is the wine vault which holds 2000 750 ml bottles lying down, plus 200 additional larger bottles on their sides. Even the most discerning wine collector will appreciate that the room is vibration, humidity, temperature and light controlled. A cigar humidor is also inside the wine room and is temperature controlled as well.
The formal living room exudes elegance and has three sets of French doors that open out onto the palatial pool, spa and outdoor living and kitchen area. The pavement is a special type of inlaid stone mosaic known as Cosmati . It was later measured from a satellite for installation due to its intricate pattern.
